Abstract

This research was inspired by my own placements and a reflection on the verity of engagement from parents. I felt that it is important for my own professional career to expand my knowledge of how parents and practitioners interact.
This study focuses on how positive partnerships between parents and early years practitioners can be built according to child development theories, policy, and current practice. The study follows a qualitative approach to gain relevant data from both parents and practitioners. The aims of this study are to widen professional understanding of parent partnerships and highlight the importance of strong connections between home and the early years setting. The data gained from this research provided a greater depth of knowledge towards the constraints and effectiveness of parent partnerships. Although this small-scale study cannot be generalised to the wider community, it has raised questions on modern day practice. The final chapter of this study also highlights the changes which could have been made if this subject was to be explored further.
